The Coalition once again calls on Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs to take effective measures to protect journalists

05 July 2021

The Media Advocacy Coalition once again calls on Georgia’s Ministry of Interior to take effective measures to protect journalists. Today, July 5, 2021, according to reports, violent groups are physically and verbally abusing journalists on Rustaveli Avenue, Tbilisi. Members of the violent group attack journalists, curse them and force them to leave the area. So far, it is not known whether anyone has been arrested for the attack on the journalists.

Government representatives have not made any open statements to condemn and stop the aggression.

We urge Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs to take effective measures with the best interests of media safety and freedom of expression in mind.

The Media Advocacy Coalition hotline is 555 795 776 for registration of violations and legal support of the media.
