Statement on TV Pirveli journalists experiencing interference with their work

Today, on 24 June 2022, journalist Nanuka Kajaia and cameraman Papuna Khachidze were attacked on Dolidze Street in Tbilisi. The footage shows aggressive individuals preventing the TV crew from carrying out their journalistic activities.

Yesterday, on 23 June, another representative of TV Pirveli, journalist Nata Kajaia, spoke of becoming a victim of discrimination and aggressive attitude of MP Mamuka Mdinaradze. According to the journalist, during the public meeting the MP repeatedly used foul language, insults to honour and dignity and discriminatory phrases.

·      The Coalition calls on the Special Investigation Service to immediately open an investigation into the attack on the TV Pirveli camera crew on Dolidze Street.

·      The Coalition calls on the Parliament of Georgia, within the framework of the Ethics Council, to investigate the possible violation of the Code of Ethics for Members of the Parliament of Georgia by Mamuka Mdinaradze.
