Street Art Campaign in Support of Free Media

28 September 2024

On September 28th, World News Day, a stencil advocating for free media appeared in the center of Kutaisi—a journalist turtle deliberately tracing the path of corruption to reveal its origins and share the truth with the public. Soon after, stencils featuring other animals appeared in Batumi and Rustavi. In Batumi, hedgehogs symbolize the dissemination of truth, while in Rustavi, a caged bird, despite having its beak sealed, displays a banner proclaiming “The King is Naked,” emphasizing that truth can still prevail.

Through the use of animal characters, artist Giorgi Gagoshidze (Gagosha) conveys the essential role of media in everyday life and highlights the ongoing efforts to curtail it—a reality we face today. This campaign initiated by MAC in partnership with Gagosha, has moved from street art to social media, using the hashtag #ChooseTruth to echo the global theme of World News Day.

The central message of the campaign is powerful: Free media represents the voice of the people, safeguarding public interests, addressing societal concerns, and revealing the truth in the face of adversity.
