On January 27, Mtavari Arkhi reported that its satellite broadcasting had been cut off in Georgia’s regions and abroad. Restrictions on cable broadcasting have also been imposed, limiting the public’s access to information.
In addition, advertising revenues and ratings monitoring services have been suspended. Journalists face significant obstacles, including the inability to conduct live broadcasts from key protest sites. The curbing of critical media undermines not only the operations of a single outlet but also the public’s right to be informed about significant events in the country.
The Media Advocacy Coalition urges Mtavari Arkhi co-owner Zaza Okuashvili and director Gogi Kurdadze to cease actions that hinder the station’s operations and jeopardize its future. At this critical time, it is vital to protect media rights, including those of Mtavari Arkhi employees, who have repeatedly been targeted with violence. Any reduction in the quality or scope of information available to the public must be avoided.
