Media Advocacy Coalition is concerned about the violence perpetrated by ruling party MPs

01 July 2022

Yesterday, on 30 June 2022, Vato Tsereteli, the director of the critical broadcaster TV Pirveli, was attacked by the Georgian Dream MPs on the territory of the embassy during an event dedicated to the U.S. Independence Day. Anri Okhanashvili, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Legal Issues Committee, has already confirmed the physical retaliation committed by the Georgian Dream MPs.

Media Advocacy Coalition is concerned about the fact of violence committed by the ruling party MPs, as well as the following assessments of violent actions, which further worsen the media environment and make journalistic activities dangerous in Georgia.

The Coalition calls on the ruling party to immediately hold its members politically accountable and make appropriate statements to stop the frequent attacks on media actors.
